Andy Warhol Michael Jackson

Andy Warhol Michael Jackson

So a portrait by Andy Warhol of Michael Jackson was put up in a silent art auction at the ArtHamptons art fair as part of the Vered Gallery. The art fair ended on July 12, but the portrait still does not have an owner.

This is an amusing situation. I guess they realized the portrait could go for a lot more in a better established art auction house. Who knows about the Vered art gallery and the ArtHamptons?…..no one. at least no one who would be interested in the Michael Jackson Warhol.

The article Andy Warhol’s Portrait of Michael Jackson Temporarily Pulled from Auction in New York on ArtDaily follows up on this portrait’s sale. My question is, is this legal? The rules were very clearly established from the beginning on Vered Gallery’s website. It was their false move or the collector’s false move to do this, or was this a ploy to grab more attention towards the portrait? It’s a tricky and sticky situation. The question is which art auction house will fight and win this art work? I’m laughing and can’t wait to find out about the result- could this be a new world record?
